This is a photo of Allegiant Stadium Madden Achievements Raider Nation Tailgate vs Chargers 2022. Las Vegas Raiders. This was the scene at the tailgate party before what would end up becoming the game of the year for the 2021 season.
With the recent passing of the Raider Legend John Madden on the 28th of December 2021, this was the Raiders first home game since his death at the age of 85. John was a legend in every sense of the word. Most people would be considered successful if they just had his career in coaching, or his career in broadcasting. John was successful it seemed in literally everything he did. Most of the youth of America and the world now knows him for the video game Madden football, but he was so much more than that. For me, I always loved the Miller Lite commercials the best. The first one where he busts through the paper and the end was hilarious. It showed that he did not take himself too seriously and was able to have fun and roll with it. He just seemed relatable to people.
I was so happy that the John was able to see the special tribute to him made by Fox literally just days before he passed. After the tribute was over an emotional John Madden simply said " Wow, that was something… When I hear that stuff, makes me realize… what I didn’t realize probably . Though I never got to meet John, it seems like everyone who did was better for that experience. Gone but never forgotten. Rest in Peace John.
The Raiders were up big in the middle of the 4th quarter and with less than 5 minutes left in the game the Chargers showed a lot of heart by coming back from 15 points down in less than 5 minutes. The tying touchdown pass was completed by the Chargers with just 1 second left in the game to take the final game of the incredible 2021 football season into overtime.
In overtime the Raiders would win the toss and go on to kick a field goal on their first possession. The Chargers would end up getting the ball back and kick their own field goal to tie the game. So with time running out in the game the Charger inexplicably called time out with just 38 seconds left in overtime. What made this call so strange is that if the game ended in a tie with the clock running out both teams make the playoffs. Even the announcers could not believe the Chargers called a time out in this situation.
Many believe that the Raiders may have been thinking "Just Tie Baby", but that ain't how the RAIDERS do things. So with just 38 seconds left the Jacobs of the Raiders makes an amazing run to gain ten yards give the Raiders a chance to win the game with a field goal with just 3 seconds left on the clock. Daniel Carlson avoided the announcer jinx two times that night when the great Al Michaels kept saying how he has never missed a kick at Allegiant Stadium. With the Kick sailing through the uprights that sent the Raiders to the playoffs, sent the Chargers home for the year and Also Put Ben Rothlisberger who was literally wearing an authentic autographed Raider helmet at the time the ball was kicked into the playoffs.
What an incredible game and an amazing finish to the 2021 regular season. Now Raider Nation moves on to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals in the first game to kickoff wildcard weekend. Go Raiders!
